Our visit to the Guggenheim!

Last week the Glassnote Team took a trip to the Guggenheim to see the exhibit Maurizio Cattelan: All. The exhibit is a comprehensive look at Cattelan's work from 1989, all intricately displayed suspended from the top of the Guggenheim's rotunda. It is truly unlike anything you have seen before. The exhibit includes replica dinasour skeletons, tax ederimy horses, the largest foosball table any of us have ever seen, and many scultpures of Cattelan himself. We hope everyone had an exciting Halloween! We celebrated with an office full of treats & a Childish Gambino concert! Everyone at Glassnote transformed into Zombie Campers & went down to the Brooklyn Bowl for a fun night of bowling and an awesome Childish Gambino performance. What a great night!

Intern Update #3

Things still show no sign of slowing down here at Glassnote. CMJ included performances from GIVERS at Terminal 5 with Portugal. The Man and Alberta Cross, Brooklyn Bowl with Unknown Mortal Orchestra and Gotye, the Soho house, a special radio performance for KEXP at the Ace Hotel, and another for AOL Sessions. Members of the Glassnote team also spoke on various panels, like Jenna's "Making Free Music Pay" and Alex's "New World of PR". There was also Daniel's Keynote speech with Matt Pinfield, in addition to his presentation to the Sony lifestyle reps which included surprise visits from Oberhofer and Thomas Mars from Phoenix. We celebrated the whole thing with a party at Yotel sponsored by Red Bull, Bushwicks, and Zico; check out the pictures here!

In the midst of all this, we have also been preparing for the release of Childish Gambino's debut album "Camp," coming out November 15 (less than a month)! We have received all of our promotional materials for the release - posters, stickers, AND chapstick, so be sure to be on the lookout for our Sony lifestyle reps. We're excited to have him in New York in the next month; he's currently out on the Sign Up Tour, which is hitting various cities in the US. If you can't catch him there you can tune in to his performances on Jimmy Fallon on November 4th or Conan O'Brien on November 15.

Mumford & Sons are currently on our side of the pond for Neil Young's 25th Annual Bridge School Benefit concert last weekend, as well as a few Canadian dates. Daniel and Marisa just got back from the show in Toronto where they watched the band peform to a crowd of over 20,000.

Many of our artists are hard at work on new material, meaning the next few months will continue to be packed full. Oberhofer, Temper Trap, Phoenix, and Two Door Cinema Club will all have busy 2012's. We have also recently received new tracks from Royal Bangs, which are getting us excited for things to come. In the meantime, make sure to catch them on their US tour with We Were Promised Jetpacks and Bear Hands. If you're in Europe, fear not! GIVERS will be there throughout the entire month of November.

Daniel's trip to Memphis

Last weekend Daniel took a trip down to Memphis to meet up with GIVERS at The Recording Academy and present as the keynote speaker at the GRAMMY GPS: A Road Map For Today's Music Biz event. The presentation included a look at the rise of two Glassnote artists, Mumford & Sons and GIVERS as well as an overview to the team approach Glassnote takes at supporting their artists.

While they were in town Daniel & GIVERS visited Graceland.

Intern Update #2

Hey everybody, Sara and Claire here for round 2 of intern updates. A lot has happened since we last blogged; Glassnote has signed two new artists, Oberhofer and Childish Gambino, brought on two new members of the team, Marc Nicolas and Michael Starr, and gained a new intern, Neha!

In addition to learning how to work hard for the members of our ever-expanding family, we have also had very cool opportunities to see our artists in their element. Oberhofer played two amazing, high-energy shows at the Mercury Lounge Spotify event and at the Music Hall of Williamsburg's 4-Year Anniversary show. The band's talent seems completely effortless, they are able to thrash about wildly without missing a beat. Since the shows, the band has been hard at work in the studio writing their new album. They have an old-school, 50s/60s kind of vibe that's somehow infused with punk and surf, and we're excited for it to drop in 2012!

Two Door Cinema Club came through New York recently to play two shows as well, one for MTV Hive at the Studio at Webster Hall, and one at Terminal 5. Both sold out and the crowds were fantastic and full of die-hards. We also got to accompany the Glassnote team to a special Two Door acoustic session and interview. It was interesting to get a behind-the-scenes look at all of the work that goes into these things and very cool to watch a semi-private performance.

We have enjoyed seeing the interest in GIVERS continue to build as they prepare for their fall tour, and we loved watching their performance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” on Thursday! We're especially excited to catch up with them in person when they come through New York in October for their show with Portugal. The Man, as well as Royal Bangs who are fresh off their European tour with White Denim and embarking on another with Bear Hands and We Were Promised Jetpacks.

Donald Glover was in town a couple of weeks ago to celebrate Fashion’s Night Out. Drew accompanied him on a very rainy day to film a couple Childish Gambino interviews and exclusive performances over at VEVO, Baeble, AOL and Rolling Stone . We also got to hear a few new tracks and trust us, they are SICK. We can't wait to watch everyone's reactions when Camp is released, though the amount of hype we're seeing now is already overwhelming. He’ll be back in town in about 6 weeks for their sold-out show at Terminal 5, going to be such a fun time!

These are big times for Glassnote and we have been learning so much just by watching it all unfold. It is a beautiful era to be here.

We are proud to announce our newest addition to the Glassnote family, Oberhofer!

Ever since moving operations from his parent’s basement in Tacoma, Washington to Brooklyn, 20 year old Brad Oberhofer has been carefully honing his own brand of bedroom pop, which is as affecting and genuine as it is naively chaotic.

Charmingly skewed and ramshackle, Oberhofer’s classic, melody heavy indie rock sound manages to meld Brian Wilson sized hooks with expansive instrumentation and kooky, unpredictable song structures. The intense production mixes programmed drums with jittering live percussion and centers his exuberant yelps amongst keys, xylophones, whistles and washes of wall of sound guitar.

Backed with a powerhouse three piece band, Oberhofer has spent the past year touring with bands like Twin Sister, Sleigh Bells, Neon Indian and Bear In Heaven. When he’s not on the road, Brad has finished and self-released a vinyl 7 inch, as well as singles on Inflated Records and White Iris. Having just signed to Glassnote Records, a much anticipated debut album is due for early 2012.

Another year has come and gone with another Lollapalooza in the books. This year the Glassnote Staff took to Chicago with Irish-born rocker Two Door Cinema Club as they continued to support their debut record Tourist History in the States. The festival served as a warm-up for when the band touches down in September with Bombay Bicycle Club and The Lonely Forest...

We first met up with the guys Thursday night for some authentic Chicago deep-dish pizza at Lou Manatalas. The wait was long, but well worth it and much needed as the guys had been up for about 30 hours straight at this point. Despite the exhaustion Kev still booked it into Chicago’s Beauty Bar for a sold-out DJ Set at 12:30AM. He spun some high energy, high bpm cuts across all different genres to keep Chicago’s natives sweating well into the early hours of the morning. Special thanks to the Beauty Bar for keeping us in the house long after last call and taking great care of us.

Friday morning brought an 11:15AM Lobby Call for the band and staff as we did interviews, took pictures, and played sessions for some of our favorite friends at MTV, Rolling Stone, Spin, AOL, Nylon, Virgin Mobile, Billboard, Sirius/XM, Slacker Radio, WXRT, CD101, The End in Seattle, WLUM in Milwaukee, The Edge in Toronto, WMYS in Milwaukee, and many many more. Despite this grueling schedule the guys collected themselves for an energetic and enthusiastic set on the Sony Stage at 5PM, following what could have been one of the most talked about sets of the day from our friends Foster The People. The crowd grew and grew as the band played on, and a personal highlight for me was seeing the hundreds of people get on each others shoulders as Alex instructed them and lead a huge dance party. It was absolute perfection as we looked on from the stage into the massive crowd of enthusiastic festival-goers.

After the bands’ set they went to their FYE Signing, where fans had lined up for a few hours to say hello, get pictures, and have the band and have their copies of Tourist History.

Later that night the guys played a party at The W Hotel with Fitz and the Tantrums sponsored by Belvedere Vodka. The band and party-goers helped themselves to some free vodka before retiring to the after-after party with our friends at The Hard Rock Hotel. Excitement was raging in the city of Chicago into the wee hours as we all retired to our respective hotel rooms.

Saturday morning brought a more relaxed vibe as the band got taken care of with some free swag from our friends at ADIDAS, BMF Media, Ray Ban, and many more. They had a great lunch with their agency before heading to the legendary Chicago station WXRT for 4 songs and an interview with PD Norm Winer, including a beautiful cover of “Blackbird”. Later that evening the band played a sold out gig at Lincloln Hall with friends Grouplove supporting. It was another amazing, sweaty, but fun set in a very intimate 500 capacity club, the likes of which Two Door Cinema Club have not played in ages. A truly special show for fans and friends alike, with a beautiful custom poster to commemorate the show.

All in all, it was an amazing Lollapalooza filled with both work and play. We wish the guys safe travels back to the UK and anxiously await their return to the US in September. Can’t wait to see them and everyone out at the shows! Make sure to get your tickets now if you haven’t already!

Intern Update #1

Hey everyone! Claire and Sara here, new interns at Glassnote. It's officially our one-month anniversary at Glassnote and we thought it was the perfect time to commemorate with a blog post. It's been just long enough for the four of us (including intern #3/photoshop-wiz Hannah and intern #4/paper-jam extraordinaire/token male, Drew) to learn the ropes and settle in. We were quickly initiated and have been able to each focus on the departments of interest to us. There has been so much to learn from already as the new GIVERS video for "Up Up Up" was released, tours have been put into motion for Two Door Cinema Club, Royal Bangs, and GIVERS, and a number of publications from Rolling Stone to Billboard have featured Glassnote artists.

We've already had some surprise guests here in the office (did you see our twitter picture of Winston from Mumford & Sons? He catches on quick), and had an office trip to hang out at Village Voice’s 4Knots Music Festival, it was so much fun! Music-related things aside, another really awesome part about working at Glassnote is our location....right next to Sprinkles. They're pretty delicious but we've heard nothing compares to our very own Jenna's infamous cupcakes!

We’re looking forward to seeing a few of our bands live as they come through New York in the next few months. Two Door Cinema Club will be at Terminal 5 on September 15, and then GIVERS and Royal Bangs in October! It will be interesting to experience what goes on in the office at Glassnote during those busy times, and we're excited to welcome the bands here at home-base.

"In Light"

GIVERS’ debut album – In Light – set for release on Glassnote Entertainment Group on June 7th – is the most rewarding and joyous album you’ll hear all year. The Lafayette, Louisiana-based five-piece are nothing short of ebullient, tying together ecstatic ribbons of melodies into songs that leave you no choice but to smile upon hearing them.

In understanding GIVERS, it’s helpful to think of a constellation, a configuration of points that, when placed in succession, led to the band’s brilliant debut. The metaphor proves particularly useful given the name of their album – In Light is a collection filled with uncontainable brightness, buoyed by constantly evolving rhythms, warmed by spangling guitars, and illuminated by the melodic altruism that is the band’s mission statement. Mixed by Ben Allen (Animal Collective, Deerhunter, Cee-Lo) as well as Chris Coady (Beach House, Grizzly Bear) and produced by members of the band along with friend and engineer Korey Richey, In Light is as complex as it is enjoyable. It is a record that is as unique as the sounds of the state in which the band lives, and GIVERS themselves.

GIVERS first came together when lead singer/guitarist Taylor Guarisco and lead singer/percussionist Tiffany Lamson both started attending University in New Orleans. Lamson, waiting for renovations to be complete in her new apartment, ended up crashing on Guarisco’s couch. They quickly bonded over a shared love of bands, and revealed they were both musicians. Guarisco's immersion in the sounds of New Orleans as a youth led him to play in handful of different funk, Cajun, and Zydeco groups. This influence on his playing was easily complemented by Lamson's strong upbringing and appreciation for classic rock, soul, and pop.

Hurricane Katrina forced the duo back to their hometown of Lafayette, where they began to play together regularly, eventually recruiting drummer Kirby Campbell, keyboardist Will Henderson, saxophonist/keyboardist Nick Stephan and bassist Josh LeBlanc to fill out their sound. The players spent most of their waking hours creating improvised jams and molding them into powerful songs, recording in drummer Campbell’s apartment as they went. After a handful of local gigs, it was an opening slot for The Dirty Projectors that solidified GIVERS’ fate in July 2009: realizing that music was their calling, the band made a pact to focus all of their attention to getting GIVERS off the ground. The Dirty Projectors liked them so much they asked them to open the east coast leg of their fall tour; soon after, Ra Ra Riot did the same. Stereogum called them a “Band to Watch” for 2010, and blog buzz began to reach a fever pitch. GIVERS played and played, bringing their dizzying live energy from coast to coast, eventually ending up in front of Glassnote Entertainment Group’s legendary musical guru, Daniel Glass at the Austin City Limits Festival. Glass was so taken by the band’s infectious sound and jubilant live show that he signed them immediately.

In listening to In Light, it’s easy to hear what propelled the band so quickly. Engineer Ben Allen, known for his work with everyone from Cee-Lo to Animal Collective, helped to provide sounds that expanded the band’s greatest assets – their innate knack for the catchiest of melodies, and the ever-evolving rhythms and sense of adventure that gave them their experimental edge.

Opener and first single “Up Up Up” is nothing short of anthemic, a rousing calling card for the band’s elated sound. “Ripe” is a kaleidoscope of sultry Afro-pop, while “Meantime” showcases the band’s instrumental and thematic investment in fluidity, capping off with a no-holds-barred group sing-along. “Words” fuses fist-pumping, heavy percussion with staccato vocal chants, and “In My Eyes” is lifted into the night sky by fluttering harmonies, steel drum chimes, swirling guitar solos and cricket hums. “Atlantic” laces Lamson’s textured drawl with Caribbean accents, ukulele plucks and keyboard sparkles. Refreshingly alive with melody, endless energy, and downright danceability, In Light is the perfect introduction to a band whose name you will be hearing throughout 2011 and beyond…

Last night Two Door Cinema Club played to a sold out crowd at the Varsity Theater in Minneapolis, MN. If you've seen Two Door live or perhaps on the mtvU Woodies, then you know how great their drummer Ben is...also, you've noticed that he hits those drums HARD. Welp, last night his kick went right through the head of his bass drum...Minneapolis, we have a problem.

While Two Door's great crew scrambled to fix Ben's drums...Two Door went off set list and treated the audience to an impromptu acoustic performance of Simon & Garfunkel's "Cecilia"

Kicking off in Kansas City, Missouri on June 3rd, Mumford & Sons will continue on to play 12 shows across America including the Wakarusa Festival, Bonnaroo Music Festival and wrapping up at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival on June 19th in Telluride, Colorado.

The June tour comes on the heels of The Railroad Revival Tour in which Mumford & Sons, alongside Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros and Old Crow Medicine Show, will board vintage railcars and travel across the American Southwest playing concerts at six unique outdoor locations along the route, beginning April 21st in Oakland, California.

SXSW is always an exciting time, however this year was really special for us. We had Two Door Cinema Club, Royal Bangs and GIVERS all playing shows that week. SXSW kicked off with Two Door Cinema Club and Royal Bangs playing a sold out show at La Zona Rosa. On Wednesday, Two Door Cinema Club not only performed on the mtvU Woodies but also won Breaking Woodie! Apparently the whole world saw the Glassnote team jumping out of our seats! I have to admit we were all pretty excited! Both Royal Bangs and GIVERS played a bunch of showcases, each show was even better than the last. Check out just a few of the articles written about each of the bands! We all left Austin feeling very proud and very lucky to have the honor of working with these incredible Artists.

Last night at the 2011 mtvU Woodie Awards (which took place at Austin Music Hall in Austin, TX, in the midst of the SXSW festival), Two Door Cinema Club put on a fantastic performance and took home the Breaking Woodie Award!

The Irish trio performed in front of the colored doors from their What You Know video to an enthusiastic audience, despite it being 11PM. But the mtvU Woodies is all about music college students love, and their favorite breakthrough artist was Two Door.

The Breaking Woodie Award was determined by how many tweets, re-tweets, and Facebook posts each band could rack up. Kev made sure to thank their fans during the acceptance speech!

New York, NY- The independent publishing company Four Song Night is proud to announce its launch with the signing of Glassnote Recording Artist GIVERS. Four Song Night has signed GIVERS for a worldwide publishing deal. Four Song Night was formed as the publishing arm of independent Glassnote Entertainment Group and is led by Maureen Lloren from New York City, New York.

“GIVERS are honest and captivating writers, and you can’t help but feel good when you listen to their songs,” says Maureen, thrilled about the launch of Four Song Night. “We are excited to help them grow and develop as songwriters in the years to come. With support from affiliations with BMI and ASCAP, GIVERS will have a strong team surrounding them in their work.”

The Lafayette, Louisiana based band GIVERS joined Four Song Night and Glassnote Records in February 2011.GIVERS are Tiffany Lamson, Taylor Guarisco, Kirby Campbell, and Josh LeBlanc. Together, GIVERS are currently recording and mixing songs for their debut album, with producer Ben Allen, due out this year. Ben Allen is known for his work with acclaimed artists such as Cee Lo Green, Animal Collective, M.I.A. and Cut Copy.

GIVERS state, "We are excited to start our journey with a publishing company that is both enthusiastic and down to earth. It should be first priority for any artist to work with people you can share a vision with as well as good conversation."

Congrats to Two Door Cinema Club, who took the top prize with their album 'Tourist History' at the Irish Choice Music Prize last night! The award is regarded as the Irish album of the year. Of the 10 nominated acts, Two Door came out the definitive winner based on votes from an 11 judge panel of music media from print and broadcasting.

The Choice Music Prize is modeled after the Mercury Music Prize to focus on Irish popular music and reward artistic merit rather than radio airplay or record sales numbers.

The band are donating their €10,000 winnings to a local charity in their hometown of Bangor in Northern Ireland!

Daniel Glass is Founder/President/CEO of Glassnote Entertainment Group based in New York City, home to a current artist roster that includes Grammy Award winning Phoenix, Mumford & Sons, The Temper Trap, Two Door Cinema Club, and Justin Nozuka. Already well-known at Brooklyn College as one of WBCR’s hottest DJ’s, Glass was hired as the first DJ for the world famous discotheque Regine’s while still in college.

This show is produced by Adam Herzog of Glassnote Entertainment Group. Adam also does A&R at Glassnote and is currently working on new albums for Royal Bangs and GIVERS, in addition to producing this quarterly specialty show.

Jim Glancy has been a concert promoter for over 20 years and is one of three co-owners from NYC-based concert promoter Bowery Presents.
